Depending on the traffic, it typically takes around 45 to 60 minutes to drive from Reykjavik city center to reach this incredible location.

By Car: To reach the Silfra Fissure by car, you can follow the scenic Golden Circle route. From Reykjavik, rent a car and drive northeast for around 45 kilometers (28 miles) to Thingvellir National Park. Take Route 49 and follow the signs to reach the park and access the Silfra Fissure. Once you arrive, you can park your car at P5 Thingvellir, which is the designated parking area for divers and snorkelers at Silfra.

By Tour: If you prefer a guided experience, there are various tours available specifically for snorkeling (or diving) at Silfra. These tours typically include transportation from Reykjavik to Thingvellir National Park, as well as access and snorkeling at the Silfra Fissure. Opting for a tour can be a convenient way to explore Silfra with experienced guides, without the hassle of renting a car or organizing logistics on your own.

While you don’t need to be a strong swimmer, being able to swim and feel comfortable in cold water is necessary. The minimum age to participate is 12 years old, with a height requirement of at least 150 cm (4 feet 11 inches) and a weight requirement of 45 kg (99 pounds).
